I was more than a little excited to open the post and discover a copy of this month’s Sewing World magazine, I *may* have let out a squeal of excitement and jumped around from foot to foot doing an enthusiastic a happy dance. It’s been a long time coming but I’m thrilled the day has finally arrived and my words are right there in black and white printed on something I can actually touch and flick through, accompanied by photos of some of my favourite plush makes. I was over the moon when Julie Briggs the editor of the magazine asked me last year if I’d be interested in writing a series of fabric guides for them and I jumped at the chance. The article this month is focused on plush (minky) fabric (I am a Plush Addict, right?) what it’s like, the different kinds available, how to handle it with some top tips.
It’s a bumper issue and as well as my article theres a fabulous satchel tutorial, a pencil skirt pattern and detailed tutorial, how to make a funky free motion embroidered pencil case which is perfect for back to school, a master class on curtain making and there’s a “collect and keep” booklet on toy makes as well as the first of a six part series from Vilene giving you the low down on their interfacing which I shall be following with interest.
There are three more articles from me yet to come, next month there’s a guide to fleece fabrics and I’ll keep you guessing on the other two (oh the suspenders!) If you’d like to subscribe to the magazine there’s a special offer for our lovely customer and readers, a 12 month subscription for only £39.99) that’s a saving of £19.89) use the code PLUSH14 at check out here or the magazine is available in WH Smiths and various craft stores or you can order. Grab yourself a copy and sit down for a good read with a cuppa, I’m in the “Techniques” section.
I really hope you enjoy the article and reading the fabric guides here on the blog. Do get in touch if there’s something you’d like to read about and I’ll see what I can do!
