The Plush Crochet-Along: Day 6

Hey there! Thanks for joining us on day 6 of our crochet for beginners challenge. Are you loving what you’ve made so far?

So far you should have an almost completed heart granny square and today we will be finishing it off so you have a completed crocheted square.

You should have all of the crochet stitches in the bag but if you need a refresher, check out our YouTube crochet series. All you will need today is slip stitch, double crochet and chain stitch.

Let’s finish our crochet granny square!

  1. Slip stitch into the next two stitches to travel to the next space.

  1. Slip stitch into the gap and chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet to complete a shell. It may help to put a stitch marker in the 3rd chain, as you’ll need to slip stitch into this later.)
  1. Complete the shell by stitching 2 double crochet into the same gap.

  1. Chain 1 to move to the corner gap.
  1. Stitch 3 double crochet putting your hook into the corner gap each time.

  1. Chain 2 and then do 3 more double crochet into the same corner space. This means you should have a shell, 2 chains and another shell in the same corner gap. You might remember this as we did it in all of the corners yesterday.
  1. Chain 1 to move to the next gap.

  1. Stitch a shell into this gap by completing 3 double crochet stitches, putting your hook into the gap each time.
  1. Chain 1 to move to the next gap and repeat step 8, so there is a shell in this gap also.
  1. Chain 1, you should now be at the next corner gap.

  1. Repeat steps 5 and 6 so you have a shell, 2 chain stitches and another shell in the corner gap.
  1. Chain 1 and repeat steps 8 and 9, so you have a shell in each of the next 2 gaps.
  1. Chain 1, you should be now at another corner gap.

  1. Repeat steps 5 and 6 so you have 3 double crochet (a shell), 2 chain stitches and another 3 double crochet (a shell) in this corner gap.
  1. Repeat this on all remaining sides and corners, until you are back to where you started.
  1. Stitch a shell (3 double crochet) into the final gap space just before where you started.
  1. Chain 1 and then slip stitch into the top chain that you did at the start of this row when you chained 3 in step 2/where you left your stitch marker.
  1. Snip your crochet yarn and fasten off as you have completed all of the white rows.
  1. Weave in your ends with the yarn needle.

You have now finished all of the white rows and have one row left.

The Final Row!

Yay! It’s time for the final row of your heart granny square. You will need to go back to the first colour you used for this row (we used burgundy).

  1. Slip knot your yarn and pop your crochet hook into the loop.
  1. Choose a corner space (it doesn’t matter which) and join your yarn to your project with a slip stitch.
  1. Chain 3 (Again, as with previous rows, this counts as your first double crochet in your shell)
  1. Finish the shell with 2 more double crochet into the corner gap.

  1. As with all our previous corners, to complete the corner you need to chain 2 and stitch another shell (3 double crochet) into the same corner gap.
  1. Chain 1 and move to the next gap. You should have 3 gaps on each side now as you have increased the size of your granny square.
  1. As we did in the previous row, stitch 3 double crochet and chain 1 in each of the gaps so we have a shell in each of the gaps.
  1. You now should have another corner space where you need to do 3 double crochet, 2 chain stitches and another 3 double crochet to complete the corner.

  1. Repeat step 6, 7 and 8 until you are back where you started, completing all of the sides. You should finish with 3 double crochet in the final gap.

  1. To join the row and make a complete red outline, pop your hook into the top of the chain 3 you started with and slip stitch.
  1. Fasten off and weave in the tail ends.
