Ooo how excited was I to spy my lil ol’ website as Homemaker Magazine’s website of the month this month. The blog got a mention too, squeeee!
I recently ordered some rather drab mouse mats from our stationery supplier, they are made of recycled car tyres so I felt rather virtuous purchasing recycled and all that, but they were *so* boring and not the least bit pretty so I decided to get busy and cover them with some of our *very* pretty fabric. It was the simplest thing and literally took less than 10 minutes to complete and you don’t even need the sewing machine. Continue reading “10 Minute No Sew Fabric Covered Mouse Mat Tutorial”
UFOs… That’s UnFinished Objects, we all have them don’t we? Well 2014 is going to be the year I’m going to be Miss Complete And Finish Off, as well as Miss Start A-New… Yes sirree! (well that’s the plan.) It was in this post I talked about Best Effort Resolutions so here we are on task one of that and I’ve just spent a good few hours scouring my sewing space trying to collate all of my UFOs for a good sort through and here they are….
We’ll start with one of the high priority finishes I really need to get done before the intended recipient is a teenager. I started this quilted playmat for a very good friend of mine about 2 weeks before the arrival of her baby. Why on earth I thought I’d get a whole quilt made in a fortnight is another thing entirely but I did, and of course I failed miserably only having completed 4 blocks of this quilt with the theme “You Are My Sunshine”. She had the baby, I ended up buying her a baby gift and this has sat unfinished since then and she’s since moved to France and the baby is 8 months old. Oops. I really want to get a wriggle on with this one.
Happy New Year! This is the traditional time to make New Year’s resolutions, did you make any? I haven’t made New Year resolutions for about 15 years now. I believe that some people are just not suited to them and I gave up on resolutions as a pointless whim that I never kept past the end of January and just resulted in me feeling bad so I figured “why bother?!” Continue reading “Best Efforts Resolutions?”
Well the wintry weather is definitely here and out come the wellies! All this rain = lots of mud, bah. Baby Plush has been having a whale of a time in the puddles in her wellies, and our doglet has enjoyed his muddy walks in the wood I got a tad tired of the mud coming off everywhere it shouldn’t be so I decided to knock up a wet bag made from ripstop for Baby Plush’s wellies. It’s been great! Continue reading “Ripstop Welly Wet Bag Tutorial”
We recently took delivery of some cotton elastane rib knit at Plush Towers and I’m a little bit in love with it. It’s such a great alternative to elastic and I think it looks much more professional. Continue reading “How To Attach A Rib Knit Waist Band”
Eeeeep! Look at the cute owlie! I’m so happy with how this fella turned out. It’s Baby Plush’s birthday this week so I decided to make her something to cuddle. I fell in love with this pattern from Simplicity. There’s an owl, a fox, a bunny, a racoon and a reindeer. I’m going to try and do another but as her birthday on Saturday that might be a tad unrealistic so I reckon I have a Crimbley present all decided too! Continue reading “Owl Stuffie: Simplicity 1549”
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, tra la la la! It feels like it’s been Christmas for months at Plush Towers, our Christmas sales seems to start quite steadily in March for some of you early birds but as I adore Christmas amazingly I’m not sick of it yet. I decided we needed some festive bunting for our next open day so set to work designing some Christmas appliqués and thought it’d be rude not to put together a tutorial.
**Update** I’m delighted that this tutorial was republished in Love Sewing magazine’s November issue. Don’t worry if you missed it, the full tutorial is here but here are the pretty pictures that were published in the magazine
