Well this past week has been a bit of a whirlwind of highs and lows at Plush Towers. The low is that our heating in the warehouse has broken and it’s been close to arctic. We’re still in hats, gloves and scarves and hoping that Mr British Gas is true to his word and gets us warmed up again TODAY (cross your fingers, or send us a blanket?) but I must say that icicles aside I’ve been riding high on the news that we came away with a few gongs from the 2014 British Sewing Awards. It is with a spring in my step and a big cheesy grin that I can say with delight that Katy Jones will be joining us at our next weekend open day on 6th December!
Let me explain why I’m so excited…. Katy has got quite a number of impressive achievements under her belt, first off she pens her fabulous blog I’m a Ginger Monkey, she’s co-written a couple of books and contributed to many more quilting titles, she’s has her own TV series Quilt Monkey for the Quilter’s Network, she’s Editor of Quilt Now Magazine and if that’s not enough of an impressive résumé she’s just designed her debut fabric collection “Priory Square” for Art Gallery Fabrics which is released later this month. If you’ve been to one of our open days you’ll know that we like to lay on some refreshments and always have tea, coffee and some lovely cakes for you to nibble on. We know people can travel quite a distance to see us and we also know it’s always very welcome to get a brew when you arrive. Everybody is rather glad of the hospitality but so many people are surprised that it’s free and it’s been suggested that we should have a charity box so people can make a donation if they wish. There are only a few days to go until our next open day, will we be seeing you? It’s this Saturday. We are excited to be showing off a big re-org of the warehouse and hope the changes we’ve made will make browsing even easier. We’re open from 10am-4pm so there’s plenty of time to get lost in our fabric filled warehouse. There will also be lots of tea and cake for you to enjoy and keep your other half happy.
Each open day we have people come from further and further afield, last time somebody came all the way from Wales! Bonkers… I’ve updated the open day info page with some local attractions so if you do travel a distance there are some ideas for making a day of it
Many people choose to come first thing and afternoons are usually quieter, so I would recommend coming then if you want to avoid the crowds. Also, if you want to collect Plush Points on the day, please make sure you have registered with us online in advance. If you can’t make it this weekend, our next open day is 30th August, so not too long to wait.
I do enjoy putting faces to names so if you make it do please come and say hi! Hope to see you on Saturday.
