Sneaky Peek: Upcoming Riley Blake Fabrics

Hello friends! I thought I’d try a few new different features on the blog this year including some sneaky peek photos of upcoming fabrics. I keep forgetting to actually take the photos of the cards when reps come to see me but I’m going to try *much* harder at getting the camera out for your viewing pleasure. I’ve already placed orders for a lot of Christmas and Halloween fabrics, most of which was done last year (bonkers, hey?) and first up are some Riley Blake fabrics which are due out at various times later this year. We haven’t uploaded anything in to Coming Soon section for ages (there just isn’t enough hours in the day sometimes) but I’m really hoping we can get fabrics up in a more timely manner so you can see properly what’s due ahead of time and plan your shopping accordingly! So without further a-do….

10599260_955647557783781_4582888173154279906_nI wrote this article a few months ago and was originally published in the November issue of Sewing World Magazine but I’m sharing it here for those that missed the publication at the time. This was the second in a series of four fabric guides I wrote for the magazine, which I thoroughly enjoyed. A big thank you to Emma at Mummy & Millie’s Boutique for helping me out with the fleecey makes! Continue reading “A Guide To Fleece Fabrics”

What Is Cotton Drill? A Fabric Guide

I love cotton drill. It’s very versatile and is a great utility fabric that we stock in some very vibrant colours and best of all it’s really great value too.

Drill has a twill weave which makes it a very strong, dense medium to heavy weight fabric. It’s a really popular choice for uniforms and work clothes but the vibrant colours lends itself to all sorts of other exciting garments including both tailored and casual designs, as well as children’s wear and home furnishings. It’s even used to line shoes! Continue reading “What Is Cotton Drill? A Fabric Guide”

A Rainbow Kona Cotton Peppermint Swirl Dress

Happy new year! Did you all have a good Christmas? I hope you managed to grab some rest in amongst the mayhem and are feeling ready to take on 2015, I know I certainly am. November and December are pretty hectic months for me, Christmas aside everyone I know has a birthday in November. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but with husband and daughter having their birthdays just a few days apart plus two of my besties also enjoying November birthdays within a few days it seems to feel like it’s that way. A Guide To Plush (A Guide To Minky Fabric)

I wrote this article a few months ago and was originally published in the September issue of Sewing World Magazine but I’m sharing it here for those that missed the publication at the time (did you know that Sewing World Magazine have been around for over 20 years? Impressive!) Super proud that this was the first in a series of fabric guides I wrote for them, which I thoroughly enjoyed (#ExcitedMuch). I hope you find it helpful and feel free to ask any questions, I’ll surely do my best to answer them. Continue reading “A Guide To Plush (A Guide To Minky Fabric)”

A Fabric Guide To Corduroy: What’s In A Wale?

I just love cord, it reminds me of autumn when the leaves turning golden and marching through the fallen leaves. It has that lovely cosy feel, cord is perfect in that transition period  from the heady carefree days of summer dresses through to snuggly woolly jumpers. Come And Meet Katy Jones At Our Next Open Day!

It is with a spring in my step and a big cheesy grin that I can say with delight that Katy Jones will be joining us at our next weekend open day on 6th December!

Let me explain why I’m so excited…. Katy has got quite a number of impressive achievements under her belt, first off she pens her fabulous blog I’m a Ginger Monkey, she’s co-written a couple of books and contributed to many more quilting titles, she’s has her own TV series Quilt Monkey  for the Quilter’s Network,  she’s Editor of Quilt Now Magazine and if that’s not enough of an impressive résumé she’s just designed her debut fabric collection “Priory Square”  for Art Gallery Fabrics which is released later this month. A Toddler Duvet Cover

I’m not alone that many of my sewing makes end up being dictated around my family and their needs and desires, well ok – mostly Baby Plush and the things she needs (I really should stop calling her Baby Plush as she’s almost three now, I’ll have to think of another descriptive, but anonymous name for her soon). All of a sudden she seemed to have outgrown her sleeping bag overnight and was was about to burst out of the bottom of it. Continue reading “A Toddler Duvet Cover”
